Houston cereal lovers, your morning routine is about to get a little easier, and you may finally be able to retire that bag clip.
Cheerios is teaming up with Ziploc to introduce new packaging designed to keep cereal fresh longer without the struggle of folding, rolling or clipping the bag shut.
The new Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal features a resealable bag inside the traditional cereal box, giving cereal fans an easier way to pour a bowl and seal the bag back up when they’re done.
According to General Mills, the company receives hundreds of thousands of requests, comments and reactions each year from people asking for an easier way to reseal cereal packaging.
And apparently, it’s a common frustration: A company-cited survey found that 90% of cereal consumers take extra steps to help keep their cereal fresh, including folding the bag, using clips or transferring the cereal into another container.
The new packaging isn’t just about keeping cereal fresh. It’s also designed to make pouring less messy.
The resealable bag partially opens across the top to create a built-in pour spout, making it easier to get cereal into a bowl, cup or mug without sending O’s bouncing across the kitchen counter.
Once you’re done, the bag seals back up inside the box.
The cereal itself isn’t changing. The new packaging will be available for original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios.
Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal became available exclusively at Walmart.com on Oct. 27. General Mills says the products are expected to roll out to retailers nationwide in the coming months.
The new packaging is being produced exclusively in Buffalo, New York, where Cheerios was first made in 1941.
So, if you’ve ever wrestled with a cereal bag that refuses to stay closed, this breakfast upgrade might be worth adding to your grocery list.
