INDIANAPOLIS — Two brothers from Brownsburg are making their mark on the National Hot Rod Association drag racing circuit, earning national championships and multiple victories at the prestigious U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
Nick Isenhower, 31, and Devin Isenhower, 29, have competed on tracks across the country since they began racing junior dragsters as children.
The brothers started racing at ages 8 and 10 after a youth baseball coach introduced their father to the sport in the early 2000s.
“We’ve spent pretty much every weekend together as a family for the last almost 20 years,” Devin said. “It’s really kept our family really close together and just a lot of great memories with my parents.”
Championship accomplishments
The Isenhower brothers have built impressive racing resumes throughout their careers.
Devin has won two national championships and five division championships. He also has two U.S. Nationals victories in Indianapolis and has represented Division 3 in the JEGS Allstars competition six times.
In 2018, Devin won the Super Gas national championship, finishing first among approximately 6,000 racers.
Nick has won two division championships and one U.S. Nationals title. He won his most recent division championship in 2024 and is leading the division standings as he pursues a third title.
The brothers compete in bracket racing, a format that emphasizes consistency rather than simply having the fastest car.
“You get to select your dial in and you compete against your time as opposed to trying to be the fastest car,” Nick explained. “It’s less of a financial burden to try to go as fast as you can.”
Their racing operation includes six dragsters configured for different classes, including Super Comp, Super Gas and Top Dragster. The brothers race nearly every weekend from April through October, traveling to tracks across the country.
Their racing travels have taken them from Pomona, California, to North Carolina, Brainerd, Minnesota, and Florida. They also primarily compete in the Midwest while traveling to major events nationwide.
The brothers were in Dallas the weekend before the interview.
Balancing careers and competition
Despite their success on the track, both brothers maintain full-time careers. Nick works as a project manager for Earth Resources, while Devin is a product design engineer for Rolls-Royce.
Their competitive nature extends to races against each other.
“We’re both very competitive,” Nick said. “Several times we have to race against one another on track and each time we do that it’s always fun.”
Nick joked that Devin had the upper hand in their most recent matchup.
“Unfortunately, the last time we raced, he got the best of me,” Nick said. “Hopefully, the next time we run against each other, I can get the better one over there.”
Drag racing has become a family tradition for the Isenhowers, with their parents regularly attending events and traveling with the brothers for nearly two decades.
Nick also met his wife through the sport. She is a drag racer and was competing in Rockingham, North Carolina, at the time of the interview.
The brothers grew up in Lebanon, in Boone County, and now both live in Brownsburg. The Isenhower brothers are preparing for the final race of the 2025 season at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg.
Nick is leading the division standings and has an opportunity to secure his third division championship.
“Ultimately, I want to be a national points leader,” Nick said. “I’ve got my eyes set on that.”
Devin is focused on adding another national championship to his resume.
“My goal would be to do what my brother has already done back in 2018, which is win a national championship,” he said.
