ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WISH) — On Saturday, fans of both Michigan and Michigan State will unite for a competitive “Piss Off” to see who can collect the most urine.
The urine that is collected will be turned into a nutrient-rich fertilizer that will be used for horticultural crops.
According to Michigan State University Associate Professor of Sociology Stephen Gasteyer, one of the reasons for the competition is to collect the urine for fertilizer and another reason is to educate people that what comes out of their bodies provides nutrients.
The competition is being funded in part by a University Research Council Grant awarded to Gasteyer and Sociology Assistant Professor Saleh Ahmed.
Fans will be directed to the Ann Arbor Golf & Outing Course, with collections beginning at noon and ending at 8 p.m.
Urine is restricted by the United States from being used on food crops, but it can be used on horticultural crops like grass and flower fields.
More information about the competition can be found here.
Michigan and Michigan State are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Michigan has won four straight games in the rivalry.
